How to Get to the Daymaniyat Islands from Muscat

Getting to the marina

Seeb sits about 30 km west of central Muscat, a 25 to 30 minute drive on a good run, and it is the closest departure point to the reserve, which is why the boats from here quote 25 to 30 minutes at sea rather than 45. Independent visitors report plenty of free parking at the marina.

What is not obvious from the car park is where to go. One first-hand account describes walking towards the water and being met by someone who directed them to the right boat; the Seeb Marina morning trip is more specific in writing, all guests pass the marina security gate and turn right to the jetty where the boats are moored. One operator also notes a marina dress code: fully covering clothing before and after the trip.

Which trips leave from here

Three of the nine: the $60 Seeb Marina morning trip with an 08:15 check-in, the $66 Seeb Port short trip departing 08:30 with boarding from 08:10, and the $70 GoPro trip. The last of those states explicitly that transport to the departure point is not included.

If you are chasing the earliest, calmest water and the shortest time on the boat, Seeb is the answer. A February reviewer on the short trip was first boat at the first site: "which really allowed us to enjoy the place peacefully before the other boats arrived."

Closer to your hotel, further from the islands

Al Mouj is the modern marina inside the Muscat city stretch, an easy taxi from most hotels, and four of the nine trips leave from it: the $99 BBQ boat, the catamaran, the beach and snorkel day and the kayak day. The trade is about fifteen extra minutes each way at sea.

Meeting points here are specific and worth reading twice, two blue containers with marine decoration at the MolaMola dive centre, the MARMAR office inside the marina, Counter No. 6 for the kayak trip. The marina is large enough that "at Al Mouj" is not an address.

What the longer crossing buys

Bigger boats, mostly. The Al Mouj listings are the ones with sundecks, toilets, showers and changing rooms: the beach and snorkel day publishes a toilet, shower taps, first aid and full shade; the two MolaMola trips check you in at a dive centre with facilities before you board.

It also buys a later start. The beach and snorkel day leaves at 09:00 and is back between 13:30 and 14:00, which is a gentler morning than an 08:15 check-in 30 km away.

The reserve is access-controlled

"Muscat to Daymaniyat Islands ferry" is one of the most common searches about these islands and there is no such service. The Ad Dimaniyat Islands are a nature reserve: entry requires a permit from the Environment Authority, boats need clearance, and the islands themselves are closed to landings for six months of the year.

The practical consequence is that every result offering to take you there is a tour boat. You either book a seat on one, which is what this site compares, or take a private boat with a permit you applied for yourself. There is no scheduled service, no walk-up ticket office and no public jetty on the islands.

And no public transport to the marinas

Muscat's bus network does not usefully reach Seeb Marina; one traveller who checked the routes concluded it would take several buses and a long walk. Taxis and ride-hailing apps work in both directions, though a reviewer returning from Seeb Port found the apps unreliable at the quay and had the operator's manager help arrange transport back.

If you have a rental car, both marinas are straightforward drives with parking. If you do not, agree the return with your driver or book the Seeb Port trip, the only listing here that will arrange hotel pickup and drop-off, at extra cost.

Read the meeting point the night before

Three of the nine listings say only that the meeting point "may vary depending on the option you select", which means Seeb or Al Mouj, 20 km and a 30-minute taxi apart.

Malika from France, June 2026, on the morning or afternoon trip: "On my reservation the meeting point was listed as Al Majoub Marina, while the meeting was actually at Al Seeb Harbor. I had to take another taxi. A lot of stress, but everything worked out well." She still gave it five stars, which tells you the trip was good and the logistics were not.

The fix costs nothing: open the voucher the evening before, and if the wording is ambiguous, message the operator through the booking platform. Several listings ask you to contact them after booking anyway.

Timing your arrival

Boarding is typically 15 to 20 minutes before departure, the Seeb Port trip asks for 08:10 for an 08:30 sailing, and the Seeb Marina trip checks in at 08:15. Departures do slip; one reviewer noted a boat that should have left at 08:15 leaving at 09:00, which ate into the island time.

Arrive on time anyway, because the crossing is the fixed part of the day and the snorkeling is what gets shortened. Add buffer for the Sultan Qaboos highway in the morning peak.

The road to Seeb

Both marinas sit off the Sultan Qaboos highway, the coastal artery that runs the length of greater Muscat, and both are signposted from it. Seeb is the longer run at about 30 km from the centre, and traffic between 07:00 and 08:30 is the only thing that makes it unpredictable: on a clear morning it is 25 minutes, in the peak it can be 40.

Parking at Seeb Marina is free and reported as plentiful by independent visitors. At Al Mouj you park in the marina car park among the restaurants and shops, which is busier in the evening than at 08:00.

A rental car also solves the return, which is the half people underestimate. One reviewer coming back into Seeb Port found ride-hailing apps unreliable at the quay and needed the operator's help to reach a hotel.

What to have with you

Your voucher with the meeting point on it, a passport or ID copy in case the marina gate asks, swimwear worn under your clothes, and a towel, because several listings exclude them. Cover up between the car park and the boat: at least one operator notes a marina dress code requiring fully covering clothing before and after the trip.

Leave nothing visible in the car. Both marinas are working harbours rather than tourist car parks, and the sun through a windscreen ruins anything left on a seat.
